Cape Elizabeth is a beautiful coastal town of about 9,000 residents located in southern Maine. Residents of Cape Elizabeth have worked along with The Maine Heritage Policy Center to become the first town in our "Local Open Government" expansion project.

This Cape Elizabeth town spending page is a shining example of how local government can be open and accountable to its' citizens and taxpayers. We hope other communities will work with us to make their town spending data available online.

*NOTE - School Department keeps payroll records for both school department and town employees. They did not differentiate between the two, so these are broken up based on Subagency and Position Title.

*NOTE - Position Names are not specific to position, but instead show what Sub Agency the employee works in. The town of Cape Elizabeth said "they do not keep specific position titles" - but did say that updated town software this year is supposed to include position titles, which will be updated on this site once the town provides them.

*NOTE - Benefits data was provided not as actual benefits paid, but as a percentage of salary, which was then calculated based on salary. Estimated percentages were provided by the School Department which keeps salary data. They refused to provide actual benefits paid numbers, citing "confidentiality concerns" even though actual benefits data is provided each year by the state of Maine for all state employees.
